Environment


Continental subtropical climate prevails on the territory of Uzbekistan. Summer is long, arid and hot, autumn cool and rainy, winter temperate cold and snowy. In lowlands winter lasts 1.5-2 months pn the south,  and up to 5 months – on the utmost north. Average temperature in January varies from -8°Ñ to +3,6°Ñ. Average temperature in July in northern parts of the country reaches 26°Ñ, in the southern parts – higher than 30°Ñ.

 

Most precipitations fall on the lowlands which is up to 80-90 millimeters per annum. Close to the eastern and southern parts the precipitations are more intensive and reach 890-1000 millimeters per annum. More than 70% of precipitations fall in winter and spring. The snow blanket shapes almost annually but in lowlands it is quite changeable.

 

Its height varies from several centimeters in the west (in lowlands and foothills) to 60-80 centimeters in the east (in the foothills and mountains), in some parts it is higher than 100 centimeters.
