Secretary General of the United Nations Organization Ban Ki-Moon paid a visit to Uzbekistan on 4-5 April.

Opportunities for strengthening regional institutional and legal frameworks for the management of transboundary water resources in Central Asia are being discussed today in Almaty. GEF IFAS started formulation of the Terms of reference for afforestation of the 20,000 hectares on the former bottom of the sea.
Previously the Agency afforested 10,000 hectares in the Northern part of the Aral Sea region. Particularly two years ago the Agency planted tamarisk, saxaul and others allowed to reduce salt transmission more than two times.

The 2008 was proclaimed as a Year of Youth. This assumes specific attention to improving health of young people, maternity and childhood protection. A Health train sent within the framework of the annual programme arrived in the Aral Sea region.
