UN Secretary General visits Uzbekistan

Secretary General of the United Nations Organization Ban Ki-Moon paid a visit to Uzbekistan on 4-5 April.
The head of the international organization initially visited Nukus, where he participated in the presentation of the activities to improve the environmental situation in the Aral Sea area.
Programs and projects, implemented under the leadership of the President Islam Karimov, to stabilize the environmental situation in the region, soften the consequences of the crisis, improve health and ensure social protection of the population, are giving positive results. Measures are being taken to preserve the nature and revive the biodiversity.
At the presentation, detailed information on the environmental situation in the Aral Sea region was provided.
UN Secretary General, accompanied by Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev, got acquainted with the environmental situation in the area.
“Having seen the consequences of the ecological crisis in the region, I personally received evidence of the complexity of the environmental situation in the Aral Sea area,” Ban Ki-Moon said. “This is a serious warning for the whole humanity. This global problem should be solved by all states of the region collectively.”
